Flink

Overview

Flink is a delivery service for groceries and other supermarket items. Users place their orders online or via the app, and Flink Riders deliver the groceries to their doorstep on their bikes in just a few minutes. Mobility is of central importance to this young company; everyone needs mobility for daily errands and commuting to work.

This was also regularly reflected in employee surveys, in which public transportation options were cited as highly desirable. So it made sense for Flink’s management to offer employees a mobility budget as a benefit—not least to provide them with flexible options.

With the NAVIT mobility budget, Flink has…

  1. found a benefit that appeals to all employees.
  2. provided the team with genuine flexibility for their individual mobility needs.
  3. created a benefit for its employees that makes their commute easier and motivates them to come into the office.

About Flink

Flink is a delivery service for groceries and other supermarket items. Orders are placed online or via the app. Users can fill their digital shopping cart with over 2,400 products, including local specialties. The Flink Riders, easily recognizable by their pink jackets, deliver the groceries to the customer’s doorstep in just a few minutes.

The service delivers to households and offices in numerous cities throughout Germany. Flink was founded in 2020 by experienced e-commerce experts with the support of some of Europe’s most renowned investors. Flink’s headquarters are located in the heart of Berlin, in the Mitte district.

The Challenge

For Flink, it was clear that they wanted to offer a benefit that would be attractive to all employees and give them the opportunity to use it according to their needs. This became even more apparent when public transportation tickets were frequently cited in employee engagement surveys as a key benefit request.

In addition to public transportation, however, the benefits package should also include other mobility options to offer employees true flexibility.

Last but not least, mobility plays an important role in Flink’s business model. As a young, digital company, it was important for the Flink team to offer its members a mobility benefit that makes commuting easier while also encouraging more employees to come into the office.

‍“We all need mobility for our daily or personal trips.”

Why NAVIT?

Ultimately, the introduction of the mobility budget was initiated by the founders and the VP of People; NAVIT was recommended to them in part through their personal network, whose members had already had positive experiences with the NAVIT mobility budget.

One of the main reasons NAVIT was ultimately chosen was the product’s flexibility. Providing public transportation tickets and passes was a minimum requirement and an explicit request from the workforce.

In addition, there needed to be flexible mobility options. However, other providers were unable to offer Flink this flexibility, so the Flink team decided on NAVIT.

The decision in favor of NAVIT was based on the following reasons:

  • A benefit that appeals to all employees: Mobility affects everyone equally; everyone needs it every day to get to work or run personal errands.
  • True flexibility for employees: It was important to the team to offer alternative mobility options in addition to public transit in order to meet different needs.
  • Usage-based pricing model: Flink appreciated the flexible pricing structure, which is based on actual use of the benefit rather than a fixed number of licenses or packages.
  • Recommendations from other companies: Flink also received positive recommendations from colleagues who use the service at other companies and have had good experiences with it.
  • Responsive communication: NAVIT always responded quickly to Flink and provided the team with useful feedback when needed, which, in the Flink team’s assessment, set it apart from the alternative options.

Results

With the digital and flexible mobility budget, the founders and VP of People were able to perfectly address the needs of the young team, and the feedback from the entire team was consistently positive.

Team members now enjoy true flexibility in their commutes thanks to the mobility budget, as they can choose between the BVG and alternative mobility options – such as ride-sharing services – and tailor their choices to their individual needs.

This was also reflected in the numbers: The NAVIT solution helped Flink significantly improve employee satisfaction and employer branding. During the same period that NAVIT was introduced, the corresponding eNPS score rose from 28% to 48%.

Flink was also satisfied with the implementation of the mobility budget. When needed, NAVIT was responsive and provided the team with prompt feedback. The launch of the mobility budget was accompanied by an onboarding process that included explanatory materials on how to make the most of its benefits.

As a result, Flink’s employees now have a benefit that makes their commute easier and motivates them to arrive at the office feeling relaxed, ready to work with their colleagues to drive the company’s success.
